So for his birthday we took a 1-hour canal cruise in a smaller boat with no roof. we took about 60 photos and here are some.
Our captain was called Frank, and he gave an interesting tour with some history & humour.
basically we took dozens of pics.. so you get the gist.
We really enjoyed it. We went down various canals big & small, as well as the river Amstel. At times it was quite a traffic jam, and various antics were going on. You don’t need a licence or permit of any kind to drive a boat here! And for a small yearly fee you can basically moor up anywhere (that mooring is permitted). Boating is a very common hobby here that we are hoping to try for ourselves.
We saw all kinds of fascinating architecture on the roads along the canals and also the houseboats. Some of them have made amazing real gardens on their tiny roofs or decks. We went under some low bridges. Some cars are parked an inch or 2 from the edge, “remember to get out of the other side”
